R.O.A.R. Region 11 1/8th scale Buggy and Truggy Regionals

By Hal Hudson RC car Club of Spokane

The RC Car Club of Spokane was the host for the 2011 R.O.A.R. Region 11 1/8th scale Buggy and Truggy regionals. The last R.O.A.R. race held at The Hank Perry Raceway was the R.O.A.R. 2000 Stock Nationals. The RCCCS have given The Hank Perry Raceway a new facelift over the last 2 years. We have built a new Drivers stand, installed new lights and power outlets, RD room and moved the fence out to make the race track larger.  With the weather Hot and Dry practice was held Friday with racers coming from all over the region. We had our friends from the north (Canada) join racers from Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Washington battling it out for the Region 11 Championships.

Racing got under way with qualifying starting at 11A.M. Saturday morning. And after 4 rounds we had Steven Daniluk (Canada) TQing Nitro Buggy, Shane Preugschat (Washington) TQing Nitro Truggy and Brian Munn (Washington) TQing Electric Buggy. Truggy qualifying was tied between Preguschat and Daniluk at 0 points and the tie breaker going to Preguschat with a 2 in his next round. With a low turnout (48 racers) it was decided to run the Mains on Saturday night under the lights.

A-1 1/8th Electric Main

On the tone Tq Brian Munn leads the field for the first lap, with a bobble Jeremy Potter, Jay Muscroft and Nick Buechler get by with Munn in 4th. With Munn settling into 2nd he puts the pressure on potter for the top spot. On lap 5 he gets by Potter to lead that lap, Potter gets the lead back the next lap. For the next 8 laps Potter as the point with Munn in 2nd and Buechler running 3rd. On lap 14 Potter breaks allowing Munn to take the top spot back followed by Buechler and Muscroft. It stays this way tell the last lap with Jarod Clark passing Muscroft for 3rd at the line. So the finishing order for Main 1 is 1st Munn, 2nd Buechler and Clark in 3rd.

A-2 1/8th Electric Main

On the tone Munn is out front, this time he leads the first 2 laps before Potter takes over 1st, with Munn in 2nd and Clark in 3rd. On lap 7 Munn has some problems and retires from the race. We have Potter leading with Clark in 2nd followed by Buechler in 3rd. On lap 10 with Potter leading Buechler takes 2nd from Clark who drops to the 3rd spot. Clark takes 2nd from Buechler for 2 laps before giving it back. And that’s how main 2 finishes with Potter take 1st, Buechler 2nd and Clark 3rd.

A-3 1/8th Electric Main

With the title up for grabs, we have 3 drivers with a chance to win it. It’s down to whoever finishes in front of the other 2 will win it all.  On the tone Munn is off with Potter and Clark following. On lap 3 Potter takes the top spot with Munn taking 2nd. On lap 7 Buechler take the 3rd spot from Clark. Lap 10 has Munn getting back in front of Potter followed by Buechler in 3rd. Munn starts to stretch out his lead over Potter and at the buzzer it’s Munn winning the Region 11 1/8th Electric Title with Potter in 2nd and Buechler in 3rd.

Truggy B Main

The B main Starts with Gary Mathews and Brian Burgett getting out to a big lead early followed by Ron Anderson in 3rd. Anderson moves into the 2nd spot on lap 8 with Andrew Mace moving into the 3rd spot over Burgett. On lap 15 will leading Mathews breaks a front a-arm and is done for the day. With Mathews out Ron Anderson takes the top spot with Mace moving to 2nd and Bob Simpson taking 3rd. On lap 18 Burgett moves back to the 3rd spot with Simpson dropping to 5th. On lap 26 Simpson and Burgett are battling for the 3rd spot with Simpson taking it dropping Burgett to 4th. The next lap Burgett breaks and is done for the day, this lets Casey Streeter in to the 4th spot. So the running order is Anderson 1st, Mace in 2nd, Simpson is 3rd with Streeter 4th. That’s the way they finish at the 20 minute mark. Anderson and Mace will bump to the A Main.

TruggyA Main

At the start we have TQ Shane Preugschat, Steven Daniluk and Richard Infanti leading the pack for this 30 A Main. On lap 4 Daniluck and Infanti get past Preugschat and the order stays that way until lap 15 with Preguschat get back by Infanti for 2nd place. On lap 20 Infanti and Preugschat trade places again. On lap 25 there at it again switching positions with Daniluk still in 1st Preugschat 2nd and Infanti running 3rd. Lap 26 Infanti and Preugschat change place for one lap. With Daniluk out all by himself the battle on the track is for 2nd between Preugschat and Infanti. And then on lap 53 Daniluk has a battery issue and loses control of his Truck. This gives the lead to Preugschat with his shadow Infanti still hot on his tail in 2nd, With Jim Mann taking the 3rd spot. For the next 20 laps the positions stay the same and at the finish line Preugschat takes the Region 11 Truggy Title with Infanti running 2nd And Montana’s Jim Mann bringing home 3rd.

1/8th Buggy C Main

With C Main TQ Shannon Azure taking of and leaving everyone in his dust, it looked like the battle wasto see who would take 2nd spot and the other transfer spot to the B Main. After the 5th lap it looked like Jarod Robb making is first start of the year was on his way to the B. But on lap 35 Robb has some mechanical problems with his buggy and has to retire giving the 2nd spot to non-other than “Jumping Jack” Abravanel. So it was looking like Azure was going to win with Abravanel 2nd, until the last lap when Azure’s motor starts to loosen up and jumping teeth this allowed Abravanel a chance to catch and pass Azure for the win with Azure holding on to take 2nd with  Robb getting the 3rd spot.

1/8th Buggy B Main

With TQ Jim Mann on the point for the start of the 20 minute B main, he’s followed by Darren Hill and Houston Keane. Keane takes the top spot for one lap on lap 3 and gives It to Hill, who gives it right back to Mann on lap 4. With Mann getting the top spot back he will not give it back the rest of the race. On the next lap Hill has a flame out and is done for the day. This gives the 2nd spot to Keane for all of 2 laps before he has problems. So we have Mann running in 1st followed by Dylan Julian. And on lap 12 Julian is done. It looks like nobody wants the 2nd spot in this race. This lets Jay Muscroft move into 2nd place followed by Jamie Hanlon in 3rd. On lap 20 Hanlon and Muscroft trade spots. 2 laps later Muscroft rolls it allowing George Tzanakis to move into 3rd. Now it’s Hanlon’s turn to have issues and he drops back making the running order Mann 1st, Tzanakis 2nd and Keane making his way back to 3rd.  On lap 40 Keane is also done for the day giving Hanlon 3rd spot back. With the dust settling at the end we have Mann taking the win followed by Tzanakis in 2nd  and Hanlon 3rd. Mann and Tzanakis are moving up the the 45 minute A Main.

On lap 68 Daniluk is back in his familiar spot leading the pack followed by Clark 2nd, Preguschat 3rd Hudson 4th and Infanti in 5th and Ross Carter running 6th. Lap 71 has Preguschat taking over the top spot from Clark with Daniluk dropping to 3rd.
