**2014 IFMAR Electric On-Road World Championship Update**

Friday, May 10th, 2013

Having solicited requests for facilities interested in hosting the IFMAR Electric On-Road World Championship, ROAR hadn’t received interest from any facilities sufficiently equipped to host an event of this stature. As a result, ROAR had to reluctantly decline hosting this event in the ROAR bloc. Since making the announcement, however, ROAR has received a number of requests from concerned racers and a few facilities now willing to host this event. After discussion with the IFMAR President, ROAR has thankfully been given a short period of time to consider new facilities who are now interested in hosting this event, which will hopefully keep it in the ROAR bloc.

As a result, ROAR will solicit bids from new facilities until midnight EST Friday, May 17th, after which a quick decision will made and preparation will begin for the running of the 2014 IFMAR Electric On-Road World Championship.
ROAR would like to thank IFMAR first and foremost, for their patience and understanding in this matter, and the number of racers and facilities that have recently stepped forward to express their concern and enthusiasm regarding the importance of hosting this event in the ROAR bloc.

Anyone interested in hosting the event should contact the ROAR President, Steve Mruk, via email at president@roarracing.com immediately.

ROAR proposes specifications for 1:8 competition 4-stroke engines

Tuesday, January 1st, 2013

To encourage the development of new technology for 1:8 nitro racing, ROAR is establishing guidelines for four-stroke engines that, if produced, will be permitted to run alongside the current  two-stroke engines at any ROAR National Championship or sanctioned event.

Four stroke engines have dominated the SX world, and they’ve eclipsed the performance of the two-stroke engines once thought to be superior in terms of total power and power-to-weight ratio. The proposed specifications are taken directly from the displacement increases permitted in SX racing, and the bore and stroke dimensions are in direct proportion to the engines powering modern SX racing machines. As is often the case, technology and specifications that are ideal in bigger engines don’t always translate to the engines used in RC racing, but as a starting point, these will be the recommended specifications. ROAR encourages any engine manufacturer to confidentially discuss these specifications with ROAR prior to construction using a different specification.

Converted four-stroke airplane engines have been tried at random points in our past, but these engines were never configured for high power output, or for the rigors of RC car racing – they were simply airplane engines adapted to fit RC cars. But proper four-stroke technology applied to RC car engines can offer increased efficiency, a reduction in exhaust noise, and as seen in the SX world, potentially much more usable power.

Due to the higher number of moving parts, the costs of a four stroke engine can be greater, so economy in the design is paramount. There are some allowances in the proposed specifications that could mean additional costs. These are all open to discussion and perhaps the specifications can be more narrow if it’s proven that a simple and less costly technology can produce similar results to those that are more costly.

Proposed specifications:

Bore: 23.15mm

Stroke: 14.96mm

Displacement: 6.30cc (.384 c.i.)

Single cylinder only

2 to 4 valve configuration

Must use a single camshaft

Pushrod or OHC permitted

Spark or glow ignition

Air cooled only

Additional specifications will develop if and when engine manufacturers decide to produce such an engine, but these basic specs are sufficient to begin the discussion.

Spec Tires for the upcoming 2012 ROAR Electric Off-Road Championship

Sunday, July 29th, 2012

The following tires will be available for sale to racers attending the upcoming “Super Nationals” in the stock classes. These tires will be available at discounted prices only from the hobby shop at the track, which will help to support this and other great facilities now and in the future when it comes to their desire to host ROAR events. As these are products that the racers would need to purchase anyway, buying them from the host facility at competitive discount prices means you don’t have to pack your own tires and you can help support the host. ROAR and especially the host facility appreciates your understanding and support.

As was the case last year, there were not enough factory teams that would agree to spec tires in the modified classes, so in those classes, tire choice is open. The Spec tires will be specially marked for the event, ensuring that all competitors are using the same compound tires.

Spec tires from J Concepts

2WD Buggy – 3016 Bar Code Rear $10.99; 3017 Bar Code Front $10.49

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

Although it’s not as widely publicized as other WC events, the Electric On-Road Worlds is upon us, held this year in Heemstede, Holland. ROAR is sending a small but highly skilled team of drivers with hopes of taking on the World’s best. Paul Lemieux signaled that he’s ready to win by seizing victory in the warm-up race. It’s not confirmed, but ROAR believes that LiveRC.com will provide limited coverage of the event, which will be upon us in the next few days. Best of luck to the drivers representing ROAR at the World Championship!!!
