Team Associated driver Alex Miller dominates ROAR Region 2 1/10th Series

Indoor off-road racing season has started in the northeast and the action from Round 1 at the Bumps and Jumps RC facility in Etters, PA provided some of the cleanest racing among the Mid-Atlantic regions top level off-road drivers. The eighty three entries for the event were spread across six classes which included the well attended two and four wheel drive modified electric one-tenth scale buggies. The remaining classes for the event included 17.5 stock buggy, two wheel and four wheel drive modified short course trucks, and the entry level Young Guns. Three qualifying rounds of competition set the starting lineup for the single A Main features in the afternoon. In the first A Main of the day, the four wheel drive short course trucks would take to the starting grid with local driver Josh Smeltzer out front in the top qualifying position. Johnny Drakeford would start second and keep the pressure on Smeltzer for the first few laps of the race as they swapped positions for the lead. Smeltzer would hold on under the pressure as he stretched the distance and Drakeford would continue to fall down through the running order. Tyler Herwig out of the Rt 281 Raceway in Somerset, PA and Justin Bortz both driving Tekno trucks would move into the final positions for second and third place respectively. The two wheel drive modified short course trucks would be started with Team Associated's Barry Goodwin on the pole. Goodwin would do his best to hold off Jason Schreffler driving a Losi, but it was not enough to hold him off. Schreffler would take the win with Goodwin finishing second and Gabriel Galeano coming in third. In the buggy division, the talk of the day was local Team Associated driver, Alex Miller, just coming off his previous podium finishes at the J-Concepts Indoor Nationals in Fitchburg, MA. In the four wheel drive division, Miller was in a league of his own and not contested for much of the day. Team Associated teammate Barry Goodwin,out of New Jersey, would finish second and the young Ethan Mackanick, out of Shippensburg, PA, starting from the seventh position, would round out the final podium position. The two wheel modified buggy class would put the on-road skillset of Jason Schreffler driving the brand new Serpent Spyder buggy on the TQ position. A few mistakes would push Schreffler back to third while Alex Miller would take over the top spot. Jason Haas, now driving a Kyosho RB6, would put the pressure on Miller and take over the lead but could not keep it out front. Miller would take the lead back at about the midway point of the race and hold on to the finish. Haa s would finish second and Schreffler in the number three position. Making its debut back into the region this year was the 17.5 stock buggy class. Declining numbers over the previous years have begun to the rebound in the class at many of regions tracks. Ryan Acri would get a clean start from the TQ position and never look back the rest of the race. Some close racing further back in the field allowed Acri to pull further away from the field and keep the second place finisher of Curt Sieber about thirteen seconds back at the finish line.
